Use with bottle cages

Water bottles can be easily accessed via top-load bottle cages on most bikes with a minimum of 21 cm (8.25") clearance under the saddle for accessing a 500 ml water bottle from above. If space is limited, use side-loading bottle cages.

Brompton Compatible

Use with the Ø31.6/8 Base Clamp, Brompton users can add a bottle cage or utility rack behind the saddle to hold a water bottle or bag, before and after folding.

Of course, the mount will work with other folding and mini bikes that have a matching seatpost diameter.

Fitting

Diagrams illustrate the approximated space required to use top-load bottle cages according to different seat post offsets and lengths.

Screws & Washers

  • All screws have specific lengths for assembly. Please refer to the PDF user guides.
  • Wipe off metal powder from the Main screw of the BASE Clamp before reinstallation.
  • Metal washers protect the aluminum surface from scratching, so keep them in place if possible. The metal washer comes with the Main locking screw on the BASE Clamp is a MUST.
  • Supplied nylon washers are optional but essential in some cases. Place them between bottle cage and mounting surface to fill the gap of the curved plate on some bottle cages or as damping pads to prevent over tightening.

Tightening the screws

* Applying grease on screws, threaded holes, or washers is NOT recommended.

* Do not skip the metal washer on the Main locking screw (22mm socket-head cap screw) on the BASE Clamp.

* NEVER install the BASE Clamp without the rubber pad.

  • Tighten the Main screw without a torque wrench - Tighten the screw with 4 mm hex hey until the swing arm’s outer side aligns flush with the BASE unit’s outer side. The screw has reached or just exceeded 2.5 Nm at this point. Slight outward or inward alignment is acceptable. The rubber pad will completely deform if over-tightened.
  • When using a torque wrench - Tighten the Main screw to 2.5 Nm or up to 3 Nm for heavier loads (over 3.6 kg or 8 lb) on long off-road rides if needed. Reset to 2.5 Nm when the load has reduced.
  • Use 3 mm hex key to tighten all other button-head cap screws. If tightened with a torque wrench, do not exceed 2 Nm.

BASE Clamp installation, positioning & alignment

  • When installing, align the ends of the rubber pad to the opening of the BASE unit and the swing arm tip. See details on BASE Clamp product page or download the PDF user guide.

* Realign the seat post and saddle if your bike has dropped and rotated.

  • If the mounting hardware is slightly off-centered, unload gears, unscrew the Main screw a few turns, realign the BASE Clamp, and then tighten the screw to specifications.
  • To adjust the mounting position, unload all attachments, detach the BASE Clamp and rubber pad, realign BASE Clamp and rubber pad, tighten the screw to specifications.

Bikes with rear suspension, suspension seat post, etc

If used on bikes with rear suspension, a suspension seat post, a height-adjustable seat post, or an angle-adjustable saddle, make sure there will be enough clearance in all settings for your mounting kit and the carry-ons.

Basic maintenance

  • Keep the rubber pad clean and dry. Clean the contact area on seat post before attaching the BASE Clamp.
  • Do not use bent screws or screws with deformed threads. Replace with screws of the same lengths.
  • Remove debris from screw holes on the MultiAngle Mount before reassembly. Use soapy water and a cotton bud if needed.
  • If you plan not to ride for months, remove the BASE Clamp from the seat post or remove heavy loads from the mount set and keep the Main locking screw tightened at 2.5 Nm.

Dirt from the rear wheel?

Placing water bottle with push-pull lid/cap on the rear end of a bike could get very dirty under the rain or paddle in muddy terrain, while not a concern for those who have installed a rear fender or rear rack with top carrier bag.

If you don't like adding a fender, and no need to access water bottles on your back during paddling, use bottles with dust covers or dirt caps will be the easiest way to keep the bottle lid clean from dirt.
